Marine Cargo Claims

In case of loss or damage

  1. Inspect the goods immediately upon receipt

    Should there be visible damage or suspicion of such, please mark notification on the delivery note. If the damage is found later on, send a written reclamation to the carrier immediately.

  2. Please contact the nearest Chartis office immediately. Do not forward the damaged item before Chartis is involved.

  3. Minimize the loss or damage

    Care must be taken of the damaged cargo.

  4. Do not change the condition of the consignment nor the packing before a surveyor is present.

Please print a cargo claim notification form, fill in the required information and send it to

 Documentation of claims

  a) Bill of lading and/or other contract of carriage
  b) Commercial invoice
  c) Reclamation made to the carrier
  d) Correspondence changed with the carriers and/or other parties regarding the liability for the loss or damage
  e) Survey report, if available 
  f) Receipts and invoices regarding the repair costs
  g) Shipping invoices, packing list etc.
