We started to operate on the Czech market in October 1992 as a composite (life and non-life) insurer under the name of PRVNÍ AMERICKO – ČESKÁ POJIŠŤOVNA, a.s.

Following amendments to the Insurance Act, from April 2000 the composite company was divided into separate life and non life insurance companies.  AIG CZECH REPUBLIC pojišťovna, a.s., the non life insurance company was established. 

To consolidate and simplify the organizational structure of AIG’s non life insurance businesses in EU countries, since 2007, AIG’s non-life insurance business in the Czech Republic has operated as AIG EUROPE, S. A., pobočka pro Českou republiku (branch for the Czech Republic), which replaced AIG CZECH REPUBLIC pojišťovna, a.s.

From July 2009, AIG’s non life insurance companies around the world will operate under the new brand CHARTIS. On October 1, 2009 the non-life business in Czech Republic was rebranded as CHARTIS EUROPE S.A., pobočka pro Českou republiku (branch for the Czech Republic).

CHARTIS EUROPE S.A. is a French insurance company and is regulated by the French insurance supervisory authority, the Authorité de Contrôle des Assurances et des Mutuelles (ACAM). At the end of the financial year 2008, CHARTIS EUROPE S.A. held over 1,3 bln Eur in capital funds with a solvency ratio of 510% of the minimum capital requirement (up from 267% in 2007). This allows to retain substantial additional risk whilst at the same time providing continued reassurance to customers that CHARTIS Europe S.A. is in a financially solid position to serve their insurance needs.
