Education and Charities

Education
There are thousands of independent schools and nurseries located in every corner of the country. Together they take daily responsibility not only for the education of millions of children, but also for their physical and emotional protection.
This single fact sets them apart from all other types of organisations, meaning they are subject to specialised legislation, unique duties of care and sometimes complex systems of management and governance. Their insurance needs reflect that they are something more than businesses with assets to protect or places of work.
Charities
The UK is in the middle of a period of extrordinarily intense debate over the role charities should fulfil within our society. What’s not in any doubt is that we have many of them, operating and providing help and services within as many niches as our society can offer. The Charity Commission advises that in 2007/8 there were some 171,000 registered general charities – and perhaps three times that number of unregistered smaller local groups and associations.
When charities engage in the provision of social services, they operate in the same space as other businesses, acquire similar risk profiles and are subject to the same standards of governance and legislation. Chartis offers solutions that recognise the specialist needs of charitable and not-for-profit entities.
