Dear Agents,
Minimum Requirements
Under the GIAS’s Training and Competency Requirements, all insurance agents are required to complete the following minimum requirements under Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in order to continue to maintain their representation to sell general insurance.
Composite Agent (those selling life and general insurance products)
Minimum No. of CPD required | |
Life Insurance | 30 hours |
General Insurance | 8 hours |
Non-Composite Agent (those selling general insurance products only)
No. of year as a general Insurance Agent | CPD Requirement |
1st year | 24 CPD hours |
2nd year | 24 CPD hours |
3rd year onwards | 15 CPD hours |
Responsibility of Agent
It is the agent’s responsibility to comply with the CPD requirements. According to General Insurance Association of Singapore (GIAS), “Agents will be responsible for their own development and upgrading their skill and knowledge and General Insurers will not be responsible for the CPD requirements of Agents.” Therefore, Agents are required to follow through and monitor their own CPD records to ensure that they meet the minimum requirements.
The Company has limited number of training courses and the courses may come with various selection criteria. What this means is that the Company may not be able to cater to the CPD requirements of agents. Therefore, we urge agents to look to courses arranged by Singapore College of Insurance (SCI) or from other providers to achieve the CPD hours.
