*Contents refer to fixtures and fittings added by you and/or the former owner of the building, including your interior decorations, furniture, furnishings, clothing, personal belongings and valuables but exclude deeds, bonds, bills of exchange, promissory notes, cheques, travellers’ cheques, securities for money, documents of any kind, cash and currency notes. Fixtures and fittings added by you/or the former owner of the building will be excluded if building coverage is purchased.

**Personal effects refer to your personal belongings which are physically carried or worn by you at the time of loss or damage, but shall exclude cash or its equivalent and any personal belongings or contents in your residence.

  1. What does Homes Advantage cover?
    Homes Advantage is a comprehensive home insurance plan that offers you the flexibility to customise your covers to achieve your desired protection.

    These include coverage for Building, Contents, Alternative Accommodation, Personal Liability, Personal Effects, Domestic Servants, Identity Fraud and Multi-Appliances Extended Warranty.

  2. How do I know how much to insure my property?

    As a general guideline for building cover, our basis of settlement is the cost of reinstatement of the building destroyed or damaged. The sum insured should at all times be maintained at not less than the full cost of replacement without depreciation value for wear and tear.

  3. What are the consequences of under-insurance?

    At the time of loss, if the sum insured is lower than 90% of the cost of re-instatement or replacement, the amount payable for such claim shall be proportionately reduced.

  4. Are my personal belongings covered overseas?

    Yes. Personal effects are covered worldwide. Hence, we will cover your personal belongings that are physically carried on or worn by you at the time of loss or damage, even when you are overseas. However, this excludes cash or its equivalent and any personal belongings or contents at your residence.

  5. Can I choose to insure my personal effects on a standalone basis?

    Cover for enhanced PLUS+ coverage such as personal effects can only be extended when you insure either your building or contents. However, it is not insurable on a standalone basis.

  6. Must I itemise my home content that is worth $5,000? What documents must I submit?

    Under contents, items that are less than $10,000 need not be itemised. However, should your item exceed $10,000, you will need to provide us with a scheduled inventory list indicating the valuables you would like coverage for. However, in the event of a claim, you need to provide proof of ownership, receipt and a valuation report.

  7. Under Multi Appliance Extended Warranty, does Chartis replace/repair the appliance?

    Yes. Our repair benefits are up to a maximum of $2,000 during any one policy period. Repairs are undertaken by our appointed repairer should your kitchen or home product be damaged due to mechanical or electrical failure.

    Please note that the policy coverage warrants appliances between 1-5 years from the first purchase date and the appliances should no longer be covered under manufacturer’s warranty or any other warranty.
