Merchant Data Security Policy

The Merchant Data Security Policy addresses the potential financial burden to merchants and the risk to their credit card processor, as a result of a security breach that puts credit card data in their possession at risk.  Credit card companies can utilize the policy as a value-added service to their merchants.

  • The policy covers monetary assessments, including contractual fines and penalties, levied by a card association as a result of a data breach; costs of security assessments and/or forensic audits to assess data security practices and investigate a breach incident
  • Provide services to help mitigate financial losses to customers impacted by the incident, including identity recovery services and credit monitoring
  • All merchants with less than 6 million in transactions annually are included automatically. A separate application is not required for each merchant
  • Marketing information and FAQ are provided for merchants highlighting policy advantages
  • Claims and inquiries receive responses promptly; and merchants are reimbursed shortly following a breach
